Smaller and Smaller

Dear J—

One of my favorite rides at Disneyland is the “It’s a Small World” ride, despite what they say about marionettes and robotic puppets and all of that other stuff; the repetition of the Sherman Brothers song … on the other hand, the line is almost always short (for some reason, the longest I’ve seen it is at Christmas at night when it’s all lit up, the line snaking back and forth and around; still though, the wait was less than an hour).

What it reminds me of, though, is how small the world is for my chosen profession: I see the same people at the same meetings at the same times, year after year and it’s reassuring in the same way you know you’ll see the same sights in Small World. Consistency is key, and everything else follows.
