Sounds like a great place to grow up. I have been hoping we can take a road trip up the Pacific North West but with Ben working so much I doubt this is going to happen anytime soon. The only other person I know from Washington (aside from Ben’s cousins) is my friend Hans he is from a town called Puyallup I don’t know how far that is from Spokane. I always thought it was so interesting how obsessed he is with his hometown. He talks about it with such pride. In fact he is so into it that he is now running for state representative (hanszeiger.com). You are lucky you got to grow up in such a neat place.

This must be so hard for both of you. But Figgy might be having a fun time at day care. When I was in high school I lived part time at my aunt’s house and she owns a day care in Chula Vista. Some kids would throw the biggest fits when they were being dropped off and the minute the parent would leave they would be over it and super happy. Mondays were always the worse.

This is the main reason we don’t have kids. Mormons aren’t fond of day care and well I’m pretty sure I’m going to be shunned (I’m exaggerating) one day if I ever decide to work and have a family. But from what I’ve noticed kids who go to day care are way more comfortable with unfamiliar situations and aren’t so needy than kids who have a stay at home mom. I'm now back to being a nanny, I spend all day with a 15 month old. No TV just one on one attention. I know the parents can’t really afford me (I get paid per hour) but they are paranoid about putting their baby in day care. I really don’t see what the big deal is. Specially when I see the other nannies at the park gossiping with each other and ignoring the kids.

She did have a pretty decent Monday, but was really tired today -- got up at 3 and wandered around the house until she got cold and came into the bedroom; bad time being dropped off at the day care but that's nothing new.

So you guys went to Legoland, SeaWorld and the Zoo all in one weekend? Figgy must be having the worst Monday ever.

Last time I went to SeaWorld was for my high school prom. I think is time to go back.

Optional, then, perhaps; I always tried to justify it as keeping the lawn warm through natural mulch, but somehow I was always too transparent.

I love the idea of immediacy -- the fewer things between my brain and my expression, the better, and the easier it is to get things out, I'm all for that. I think what I respond to in letters is the idea that someone's taken the time and effort to put pen to paper and devoted a good hour of their time to me. On the other hand the easier it is to do something I find it easier to procrastinate: there are several important emails I keep promising, in my head, to finish and send out in a spare moment.

Still, it's possible that the ease and immediacy of email/text/Twitter messages may make them, in the long run, more useful as source documents for historical research, precisely because they tend to be less consciously constructed and are therefore potentially more "truthful" and accurate.

And there's always the blogosphere to keep more carefully crafted prose alive...right?

Grandma Reinhart sends us hand written letters pretty often and I love them. I get so excited when I spot them in the mail box. They feel so special even though the content is pretty crappy. (Sorry I couldn't think of a better word as you know my English is very limited).

I admit I probably keep up with more people now than I did before the computer was always on -- that much is true. I just feel like there's some cranky old man inside me getting ready to yell at the kids on his lawn: hey, we made these computers work for you, back when new programs meant typing in your own and adapting to the quirks of whatever particular flavor of BASIC your machine ran versus the version published in that book/magazine was.
