Sleep Now

By dearJ

Dear J-

One quiet day spent at home; one short day off work, before I go in tomorrow to do battle with the new system.  One last day in July we can call weekend; one more day of sanity’s reign.  It’s a funny thing, these Saturdays spent watching figgy; I always seem to end up putting her in the crib early with the hopes she’ll fall asleep, and hearing nothing but babbling on babbling.  Yet checking in on her, she seems to be lying still — perhaps lying in wait to whirl on me and flush me out:  aha, she says, aha, I’ve caught you out.  And if falling asleep is necessarily a brief moment of sad separation, being reunited on the other side of consciousness’s bridge is sheer ecstasy and excitement.  Sleep now your uncomplicated sleep; sleep now knowing we’ll find each other again.
