Violent Times

By dearJ

Dear J-

You, just be thankful I didn’t just slap together another Catch-22 post this Thursday (two reasons:  Thanksgiving and the astonishing lack of progress from the last entry, having managed a bare single chapter).

I’m thankful that, of all my addictions, the one that frightens me most, the violence, hasn’t surfaced in seven years now.  I sometimes have an overly casual approach to frustration, using my foot to move things out of my way with more force than necessary, or employing blunt tools without further thought than what a loud noise it might make on something.

And the rule between inanimate and animate objects blurs faster than you blink.

I like to believe that I’m a better, wiser, older man today, one fully outgrown of those things the same way most of the videogames are carefully packed away in the closets.  But I remember where they are, and how to unlock them; it’s something never completely forgotten.  As long as I remember the after, the consequences, that seal stays unbroken.

Mike
